Resume:
In 1990 Deb Asplund opened Vision Works to provide the Whidbey Island
building community with a full line of design and drafting services.
Since that time she has completed 130 design projects, the majority of
which are on South Whidbey. Her services aid homeowners &
contractors, and include new home construction, home renovation, site
plans, planning & permit review, and consulting. All drawings
are
engineered to meet the code of local building authorities and address
the earthquake standards of the area.
With years of solid background in design and production, Vision Works
is able to produce the highest quality designs that meet the needs of
the heart as well as the hearth, along with personal &
professional
attention and complete follow through. This provides the foundation for
successful projects and is a commitment made to our clients. Deb
designs for the unique look of the Pacific Northwest.
Deb is a Nationally Certified Building Designer and a member of the
American Institute of Building Design and the National Council of
Building Designer Certification. For more information see link below.
Deb is a yearly guest speaker at the WSU 1-day University "Sound
Waters" on Green Building Practices. She has to her "Green credit ": an
active solar home, a straw bale, a Rastra block cabin, and a recycled
material cabin using post and beam construction. Deb has also recycled
an entire house by moving it 17 miles by truck. Vision Works provides designs for homes
that are easy to live in. Listen to what our patrons have to say:
- "We love our new
home."
- "Thank you for doing
such a wonderful job and helping us through the obstacles."
- "The
contractors have been very impressed with the design, which is always
comforting. That is surely one area that will go smoothly."
Certification:
The American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) is a recognized
association of Design Professionals governed by a Board of
Directors. Their prime objectives are: to improve the
educational
standards & methods of its members through continuing
education; to
create unity and interaction in the design field nationally; to promote
research into design aesthetics & technical aspects; and to
ensure
continuation of the practice of building design through legislative
means. Building Designers are allowed to practice in the State of
Washington under the "exemptions" segment of the architecture law (RCW
1808.410).
All members of the AIBD have met the requirements of the association's
continuing education provisions and work experience standards. An
independent testing board, the National Council of Building Designer
Certification (NCBDC), has been established to administer and verify
qualifying examinations (akin to the AIA's) to ensure that the highest
of standards are maintained by AIBD design members nationwide. A
Certified Professional Building Designer with a NCBDC stamp is able to
submit bids to the US Government for HUD/FHA projects. Deb Asplund
earned her National Certification in 2006, and now proudly carries the
initials CPBD after her name.
