June 29th

The Sultan's Daughter--(1940 BW) Charming a oddball musical; with Spike Jones's forerunner, the Freddie Fisher Band, a young Irene Ryan (original Granny from the Beverely Hillbillys)
a lot of vaudeville acts you probably never heard of in a film of what was obviously a staged review somewhere sometime. If only the Saudis were as much fun...

July 6th

July Friday the 13th Special!

Donovan's Brain--(1954, BW) Co-starring Nancy (Reagan) Davis! Animal rights activists are gonna HATE the scientist in this one for what he does to helpless little monkeys. Then he does it to a millionaire which is ok I guess. The forerunner of ALL Brain in an Aquarium movies.

July 20th

Mountain Music--(1937 BW) Early Martha Raye and aging Bob Burns in this Feuding Hillbillies meet civilization via show business. The Hillbillies all look like Baby Gramps. Where is the Hillbilly anti- defamation league when you need them?

July 27th

Pardon Us--(1931 BW) Their first talking feature! Stan and Ollie go to prison for breaking an immoral law (prohibition)

August 3rd

Atlantis the Lost Continent--(color, 1961) George Pal paints a lurid vision of Atlantis. Very New Age prologue and sexy men and woman and beastmen in psuedo-greek style dress. Evil ancient science gone amuck, but you probably already know the ending, don't you?

August 10th

Festival of Two Reelers, Cartoons, and Soundies...Bert Lahr (the Cowardly Lion from Wizard of Oz), WC FIelds, Cab Calloway, Hoady Carmichal, Betty Boop, and Max Fleischers' Popeye! What more can anyone ask?

August 17th

The Thirty Nine Steps--(BW, 1935) WHAT are the 39 Steps? Another Hitchcock Spy movie with a great ending in a British Music Hall.

August 24th

Cry of the Banshee--(Color, 1970) Vincent Price in a Hammer studios ghoulie ghosty werahwoof horror film with medieval hippies who practice black magic for revenge against the evil baron and his family. Parental Caution for Younger Children for violence and skimpy wardrobe, but still tame by todays standards.

August 31st

Dr. Strangelove (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb)--(BW, 1964) Peter Sellers in multiple roles, George C. Scott, Slim Pickins in the Stanley Kubrick cold war masterpiece of impending Nuclear Armageddon.

.

September 7th

Freaks--(1933, BW) Also titled Forbidden Love at the Carnival, Tod Brownings disturbingly fascinating movie starring actual circus and performing freaks of the time. Part plea for tolerance and understanding of those who are different and part horrific murder revenge triangle.
