Fuselage before
These are the discrepancies I found as I disassembled the fuselage of the Fairchild when I started the recover process.
The day I brought the fuselage home to recover
![]() Removing the fabric
![]() ![]() Bent fuselage former (rib) note the wire mess
![]() General condition of the entire aircraft (dirty) lots of debris laying around,
all soaked in 50 weight oil. all wood was too oil soaked to glue to,
and must be replaced
![]() Broken fuselage formers
![]() Two Milkeyway bars that a mouse has eaten a long time ago.
laying on top of 7 layers of fabric most of which can be pulled away
in shreds
![]() The mouse nest cabin overhead, I knew there had to be one,
I could smell the mouse Pee every time we left the aircraft in the sun.
![]() Floor boards were made from an old packing crate, not even close to blue print.
![]() Many repairs to the fuselage formers (ribs) The lighter areas are patches,
note that some are cracked
![]() Broken stringers behind the rear window, they actually rotted away
from the glue joint.
![]() This is when I decided to rebuild the Fairchild from frame up.
I could not bring myself to place new covers over these discrepancies.
