Landing gear
The day I removed the landing gear to bring the fuselage to the garage
for repair this is what it looked like.
Paint peeling off chips and scrapes
I can't wait to see what is under this
Actually the leg is in pretty good condition
After cleaning and magnaflux inspection the leg is preserved as all the steel parts
Then I cut balsa blocks to fit the leg and glue then to the front and rear tubes as a fairing
And shape with hand tools
Then recover, prime and paint.

The Brakes were not working all that well and were pretty dirty.
I cleaned all parts and the ones that were steel were cad, plated,
then new linings were installed and reassembled. this is what they look like now.
The Hayes 10 inch wheels were trued and the brake drums were noted
to be out of round, I removed the drum, 1100 grit bead blasted the wheel to remove
all corrosion, and manufactured and installed new drums, painted them white and installed new bearings and races.
New drums
Finished main wheel
Finished tail wheel
Cleaned and refinished the wheel pants, The landing gear is finished and installed.
This is the condition of the struts when I removed them to see why they were leaking.
I replaced the tubes that are the cylinder by removing the fittings at each end
and welding them on the new tubes.

Cut the weld and remove the fittings

Repaired struts, both he pistons and the cylinders
Landing gear is completed and ready for taxi tests.
The wheel pant, and strut covers are built and installed for final fit before painting

I'll get them painted the next good weather
