Dr. Long has more than 20 years experience in planning, organizing, and
leading instructional design projects. Her extensive background in
management and design is complemented by her long familiarity with
technology-based training. Kathy began working with computer-based training
in 1971 when she developed courses for use in research studies at the
University of Texas. She continued her involvement during many years working
with Courseware, Inc., Andersen Consulting, and as an independent consultant.
Selected highlights of Dr. Long's career include:
Designing, developing, and delivering workshops and classes on instructional
design methodology. Some of her audiences have included university students,
NASA Space Shuttle training personnel, Institute for Nuclear Power Operations
staff, and IBM managers. She also designed and presented a course on the
development of computer-based training for the Arthur Andersen Center for
Professional Education.
Owning and operating her own instructional design consulting businesses in
California and in Colorado. During these periods, Kathy successfully
competed against major consulting firms.
Managing large-scale projects, including the development of:
* 3,500 hours of aircrew training for U S Navy P-3 aircraft
* Computer-based and print training, on-line help, training databases, and
reference guides for a suite of Pizza Hut restaurant management applications
* Cross-functional skills training for managers within the Federal Bureau of
Prisons
Developing technology-based and traditional courseware on new insurance
products, social work skills, methane gas production and well field tuning,
real estate applications, reservations systems, telecommunications
technology, computer hardware maintenance, grocery store systems, SAP
software, and other content areas.
Assisting clients in developing requests for proposals, and writing and
producing winning proposals and sales presentations.
Analyzing human resource business processes, manufacturing processes, sales
and service tasks, Navy and Air Force aircrew training requirements, and
physical therapy practice.
Since moving to Colorado, Kathy has:
Conducted front-end analyses, managed a multimedia project, and developed
computer-based training and multimedia training for Storage Technology
Corporation.
Developed executive training on telecommunications technology for U S WEST.
Completed projects for Boston Market, Tele-Trend Communications, Safeway,
FHP, and Lucent Technologies.
Kathy received her Masters degree and her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology
from the University of Texas. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
and has taught at University of Texas, at National University in San Diego,
CA, and at San Diego State University.
